SMarTPost is a SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) Server. It enables you to send mail directly from your computer, without needing an external Mail Server. Normally, when you try to send mail, your email client (Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape, IncrediMail etc.) connects to the SMTP Server defined by your mail account and hands over the mail. The SMTP Server then takes over the job of contacting the recipients mail servers and hands over the mail to them for delivery.
In theory, this is the best possibility of sending mail and for the most users the simplest method. By installing SMarTPost and configuring your mail accounts accordingly, your computer takes over the job of processing the mails and delivering them directly to the recipients mail servers. This means, in most cases, that the mail reaches FASTER - it also means that your computer has to do more work. If you send the same mail to multiple recipients, SMarTPost has to contact every single recipients mail server, hand over the mail and then go on to the next one.
Using ur ISP mail server, the email would be just sent once, the ISP mail server would then have the job of sending it out ten times. In other words, SMarTPost is not conceived for bulk mailing. It is meant solely for the usage as a personal mail server for people with limited outgoing mail. It is NOT designed for the purpose of spamming, any usage of SMarTPost for spamming purposes would be a severe misuse of the program.
